AKSHAYA TRITIYA

                                                                   Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya signifies the day of eternal prosperity and joy. It is also called Akha Teej or Akti. It arrives along with the yearly festival of the spring season among the Jain community as well as the Hindu community.

It is considered as an important day to celebrate as it coincides with Lord Parasurama birth anniversary. Lord Parasuram is regarded as the sixth epitome of Lord Vishnu.

This joyful day is noted as late April or early May on the calendar. Worshipping Lord Vishnu and sprinkling Tulsi water on the deity’s idol is followed by all devotes.

During this day people buy gold and invest in it.

                             Gudi Padwa/Padva

Gudi Padwa is celebrated as a New Year in Maharashtra. It also signals the beginning of spring-time. This festive occasion is celebrated with much gusto. Padva flags of neem and mango leaves and lovely flowers are hoisted up in some houses. The flag is topped with silver or a copper vessel which is balanced and placed on top of the flag. The floors are vibrant with colourful rangoli, and sweets are prepared and enjoyed, there is joy everywhere. This festival is also called Ugadi or Yugadi in Karnataka.

The festival has a mythical association where many believe that Lord Brahma created the universe. Yet for some it is the coronation day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana. For others, this festival is linked to Lord Shiva's dance. Closely followed by Gudi Padva is the Sindhi festival of Cheti Chand commemorating Lord Jhulelaal.
